1. Buy in bulk
2. Need a container for bulk? Use your Parmesan container to fill with your bulk Parmesan cheese.
3. Compare prices between different stores. Now don't get carried away with this, you do spend money in gas going from store to store trying to "save".
4. Just because the tag on it says "special savings" doesn't mean it's cheaper than it's original price. (I've lifted those tags and the price was exactly the same, no special saving there!)
5. Off brands are almost identical to name brand items. Usually the only difference is the name.
6. Make a shopping list before you go shopping and stick to it. This saves hundreds a year because you do much less impulse buying.
7. Eat before you go shopping. This will help you buy less.
8. With your shopping list, but a number next to items. This number should be how many of it you need. For example (3) Cream of Mushroom
9. If it helps, do not go shopping with children if you can. They give those puppy eyes, or tantrums, when they want something you normally do not get.
10. Look in your cook books on how to properly store your produce to keep it longer, and look here.
11. Allow about 20% of your budget to stock up on sale items and in-store specials.
12. Shop when you can take your time to compare and get exactly what you need.
13. Stock your pantry with items you frequently use.
