Breakfast savings

If you have a little family, or a big family- breakfast can get expensive real quick if you eat cereal and milk! So here are some ideas to save and feed big!

  • Waffles. You don't need to buy the premade pancake or waffle mixes. Do you have some flour, veg oil/applesauce, sugar, salt...? You have the start already of your pancake mix! And the nice thing about making pancakes or waffles is that you can make them as healthy as you want too! Try this waffle recipe.
  • Syrup. Tired of store bought maple syrup or berry syrup? Make your own! You just need water, corn syrup, sugar, and the berries you want! For a maple syrup check out this one, berry syrup here.
  • Eggs are nutritionally packed. If you have active kids, make sure you send them out the door with the protein they need! They take all of 2 minutes to make. Get creative and add spices, milk, cream cheese...Try this website that is full of ideas.
  • Granola. Yum. I love putting our homemade granola in yogurt. You could put it in milk too, but either options can get pricey after a while. You could just eat it plain! Try our recipes out.
  • Oatmeal can be either expensive or extremely cheap. If you buy in bulk, it's very inexpensive. Depending on your location, a 25 lbs bag of quick oats for us comes as cheap as $10 (40 cents a pound). However if you buy in store the tube-like containers, you could be paying $4 for 2lbs ($2 a pound!). Hello savings! And you can add just about anything to your oatmeal. Try things like: brown sugar, jam, berry syrup...
